I like how Apple designed an optional feature that requires you to disable SIP to reclaim storage space.

If you don't manually delete the files, they remain on your Mac until your storage is nearly full.

This, really strikes me as shortsighted. Not being able to download executables at ALL makes it feel like a bigger Android tablet, not a fully-featured desktop OS.

One collary I'd add to this is that the opposite is also true. There have been plenty of times that I've trudged through the beginning of a novel, only to reach an "anti-volta" and realize that it isn't for me. It can incredibly frustrating and make the slog feel like a huge waste of time, but I still keep trying books. Maybe I'm just chasing the highs I felt when I first read the novels that got me into reading.

Could someone explain what the IAU means by "clearing its orbit". For example, could we consider the Earth having not "cleared its orbit" because of the Moon? The Sun attracts the Moon more strongly that Earth does, so does that mean that the Earth doesn't fit the criteria? Or does the IAU have some sort exception for moons which they've defined some place else? I'd really appreciate if someone with more knowledge could explain.

To use a different phrase from wikipedia, "orbital dominance".

The Earth's sphere of influence goes out to about a million km, 2.5x the moon's orbit.

I was thinking maybe reverse engineering newer Apple Silicon devices to port Linux.

Fable was able to get Linux booting on my M4 Pro mini. (Using Asahi as a base, not possible to upstream because they really don't like AI). Hardware support beyond USB 2.0 requires tracing macOS under the hypervisor, which Fable refuses to do and Opus isn't much good at. I'll try Sol at some point.

You don't have to upstream it, but if you stuck it in GitHub or whatever so everybody else could pick up the source code changes, that'd be neat.

With Google handing this off to OEMs, I really don't know how it'll hold up compared to a Pixelbook. I can't remember the last time I got an HP or Acer laptop that didn't use e-waste tier parts. I just hope it's worth the price.

I must be missing something here. Why would anyone want to use Apple's god awful translation models? Is it perhaps better at translating individual words? Anytime I've used it for article translation it has been unequivocally terrible.

Did you use it recently? I used it to translate a Chinese website to English and was surprised to see everything made sense. Even the texts on the images were translated (in Safari).

This has to be one of the most vile scams I've ever seen. Hopefully with awareness will come justice.
