Nah I think the brain shuts down once you’re not in the driver seat. Wouldn’t see someone care enough to throw something at others from a taxi or a bus either.
On your post: I really don’t get why a widely used/available and pretty standard (as in there aren’t 5000 weird variations - more or less one per device of 4-5 devices per year, mostly the same controllers for most things) group of hardware doesn’t get more love from the Linux community. It’s the perfect case for showing the superiority of the open source model and the devices are amazing for their age.
Without any bloat it could show that they also perform reasonably well and it also solves the gaming problem on Mac.
I’ve also updated a few patches but it seems to be a pain to submit these.
Yep, I admit that it's my main use of Linux. My daily driver for everything non-games-related is my 2023 (Apple Silicon) Mac Studio, but for Steam stuff I go to the old Intel iMac and whatever distro I'm running on it at the time.
Same problem with iMac - got 5k mostly working and a patch for audio using my favorite coding assistant, but that final bit remains tricky. Will post to GitHub if I can solve it.
ChatGPT just found a solution to the sleep problem - but it only works if I deactivate wake on wlan, which would defy the purpose of enabling suspend for me (I use it as my remote development box, want to be able to ssh into it and don’t have any cables in that room).
I use Home Assistant to turn on/off the TV via automations, sensors, etc.
I could possibly do it via HDMI CEC, but I have a couple of Sony Bravia TVs that more often than not completely ignores that, so I prefer having control over assuming it happens.
I have an automation that turns on amplifier only when using certain inputs, not just when the TV is turned on. I can easily imagine people would also configure their amps to use different input depending on TV input.
Put the tv on a zigbee/matter plug and connect that for the power. (Just be mindful that some TVs need to condition their screens and they will do that when turned “off”, typically during the night. So it you do a hard power off you will need to perform it manually. LG calls it OLED Care iirc.)
Yeah CEC is a bit tricky sometimes. How about auto-off from the TV itself and then a timer for a HA controlled outlet to turn off power after that using automation (i.e., when the streaming device is off for a x minutes)
There is sadly no hdmi CEC support on Most GPUs for pcs. So when you want your tv to turn on and off with your pc it is only possible with the tv being reachable from your pc via ip.
I believe LG doesn’t advertise such an api via Bluetooth
HDMI breakout and a esp32 module flashed with esphome is another option. The tv most likely doesn’t care that the port that sent on/off command is not the same port the video signal is coming from..
No one in their right mind would use Edge, unless the employer's IT forces them to - and in that case they've given up on the tools the employer gives them already and wouldn't care enough to hate.
Why not? If you grow and you're producing more packaging that ends up as waste, your reporting responsibilities/liability scale with your output. As I mentioned in another comment, you're not liable to do detailed reports (identifying what sort of packaging material you produce across 22 categories) until you're producing 10 tons a year.
Add to that that notion mcp works for the chat but not code. now my workflow has docs I comment with others in notion, while the actual work and source of truth is in GitHub.
Need to fall back to codex to keep things in sync, but that's a great opportunity to also make sure I can compare how things run - and it catches a lot of issues with Claude Code and is great at fixing small/medium issues.
