Tracking. Tied to use account, length of stay, how many reclixks, etc for marketing by/ads and surveillance.

But what’s stopping Google from doing this already?

I copy a tracking link from google in my reply here. You click on the link. Google now connects me and my search session to you and knows where I gave you this link from. If I get the original url, all google knows is that I copied that link and nothing else.

JavaScript being disabled - Google was already sending analytics pings when search result links were clicked on, using JS.

Even with JS enabled, those ping requests (and other tracking) could be blocked; this new measure can not be.

<a ping=""> works without JS in Chrome and Safari (but not Firefox) https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/HTMLAnchorE...

JavaScript is required to use Google search at all, no?

Oh that is true, I forgot they changed that.

It doesn't work without JS though.

Pings are blockable in Firefox and so are the event analytics requests triggered by Google's on-page JavaScript.

Great app idea, a few times I had to look at the archive data online and it isn’t as easy as current live weather or next few days.

This is so cool, I love reverse archeology of this, having another understanding of something functional but invisible from my childhood to finally understand it and then at a later now where we can break it. So cool!

Honestly I thought they disappeared 20 years ago.

The old dvrs were great for old pata hdd that you could individually RMA.

God I’m old.

Yes, I love it and would do so

Exactly.

Everyone doesn’t know statistics but, it is obvious when someone really doesn’t know.

“ The car industry accidentally did something I've always wanted to see, which was to release basically the same car under two brands and models, with one major consumer-facing difference. ”

They do this all the time.

Since you have ssh access to webos, how is it to remove the telemetry, ads and other such? Is webos better than a generic TCL for such antics? The TCL can be rooted and is android based but I’m not up to date on current rom configurations, etc.

My TV is several years old at this point, but I've never had a single ad show up on it. Telemetry is easily blocked via DNS filters and the homebrew software blocks system updates.

Modern versions of Apple TV, Plex, Disney, etc all work fine. The only time I ever watch YouTube is on the TV because it has SponsorBlock baked into it so I never see an ad there either.

wow 5 hours per month and ads injected, drink verification can indeed.

If you looked at the new 4runner and land cruiser, it's essentially the same thing but packaged in a higher trim.

At the same time, what do you really need in an instrument cluster besides the fuel, rpm/battery charge and speedometer?

Engine/coolant temperature can be pretty important.

thats hidden nowadays and its a light vs a gauge but agree

Only if towing

I have needed more than the light on at least two occasions, neither towing.

A modern vehicle overheating? Like did you need to limp it home or something

Absolutely limping, both cases. The gauge let me judge exactly how far I was pushing it in my limping, and gave me an idea of whether and how soon I needed to find a place to stop for a while.
